All clinics are free, donations are encouraged. A meal option has been included for anyone wishing to eat at EGHS between the clinics and performance.

Augie Haas Bio: 

Augie Haas currently lives in New York City where he is a professional trumpeter, composer, and teacher.  As one of the most in demand trumpet players in New York, Augie has been playing with artists including: Maria Schneider, Village Vanguard Orchestra, Gil Evans Project, Birdland Big Band, various Broadway shows, and the Radio City Orchestra.  He is also a member of Harry Connick Jr.’s band.

Born and raised in Milwaukee, Augie earned his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of the Performing Arts. After Chicago, he went on to The University of Miami’s Frost School of Music Conservatory for a Masters in Studio Music and Jazz finishing with a Doctorate in Musical Arts.

While in Miami, Augie performed, toured and recorded for a wide range of artists including: Pitbull, Lenny Kravitz, Shakira, Rihanna, Paul Anka, and Arturo Sandoval. His national TV credits include; American Idol, The Tonight Show, The Late Show with David Letterman, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and the TODAY show.  Augie has also made numerous guest appearances performing the National Anthem at Lambeau Field for the Green Bay Packers and Miller Park for Milwaukee Brewers, co-hosted Milwaukee’s The Morning Blend, and has performed for numerous celebrity hosted events.

Augie has released four albums under his co-founded label Playtime Music: The Llama, Doing it Augie Style, Baby Jazz and most recently his debut solo album Endless, featuring all original compositions.  Most recently he published his first book entitled Build Your Range.

 

Tom Brantley Bio:

Tom Brantley, Professor or Trombone, grew up in a musical South Louisiana household, listening to classical, jazz, Latin, soul, pop/rock, country, bluegrass, and Cajun.

A third-generation trombonist, Yamaha soloist, clinician, and recording artist, Brantley performs with the USF Faculty Brass Quintet, Faculty Chamber Players, Jazz Faculty Ensemble, the Jack Wilkins Jazz Group, and Chuck Owen's Jazz SURGE. Brantley was awarded a USF Research Grant to fund a trombone/trumpet CD recording project with colleague Jay Coble featuring a new work, Confluences, by Chuck Owen. His most recent recording is a solo project, Obsessed with Treasure, and in the summer of 2007 he performed with and directed the USF Jazz Ensemble at the Umbria Tuscany and Antibes Jazz Festivals in Italy and France.

Trombonist for the chamber group Rhythm & Brass, he has performed in every state in the continental U.S., as well as Japan, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Canada, and the Caribbean. The group has produced two recordings, a chamber music textbook series, and was featured as the opening concert in the 2002 International Trombone Festival.

Brantley has led master classes and performances at music conferences: the International Trumpet Guild, the International Trombone Festival, the Florida Music Educators Association, and the International Association of Jazz Educators.

He serves as the news editor for both the International Trombone Associate Journal and Website. He is a founding member of the Central Florida Trombone Society, a local affiliate of the ITA.

Brantley holds degrees in trombone performance/jazz studies from the University of Southern Mississippi and the University of North Texas.

 

Jack Wilkins Bio:

Director of Jazz Studies, coordinates the Jazz Ensembles program; teaches Jazz Improvisation, Jazz Styles and Analysis, Jazz History, and Applied senior and graduate level jazz performance courses; and performs with the USF Faculty Jazz Ensemble.

Wilkins directs the USF Jazztet, which has performed at the at the invitation of some of the world's most prestigious jazz festivals including Italy's Umbria Jazz Festival and Tuscany Jazz Festival, Jazz a Juan and Jazz a Vienne in France, the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, and the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands.

An accomplished saxophonist, Wilkins has released three CDs; Artwork, Ridgelines, and Dear Old Stockholm. Wilkins can also be heard as a featured soloist on the internationally acclaimed recordings by Chuck Owen and the Jazz SURGE.

Wilkins has performed and recorded with many jazz greats including: Nat Adderley, J.J. Johnson, Red Rodney, Bobby Shew, Hank Marr, the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, and David Baker's 21st Century Bebop Band. Wilkins has recorded for a number of commercial projects, including John Mellencamp's Scarecrow and Chronicles CDs.

A faculty member of the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshop for over 20 years, Wilkins also teaches at the Jazzwise Summer Workshops in London, is a Selmer Instrument Company Artist/Clinician, and is the author of Essential Jazz Etudes published by Mel Bay Inc.

Wilkins completed undergraduate work at the University of Miami and Appalachian State University and earned his MM in jazz studies from Indiana University.

 

Matt Schabowsky Bio:

Mr. Schabowsky is an active performer, arranger, and music educator in Central Florida. After graduating from Melbourne High School, Mr. Schabowsky attended college at the University of Florida where he was a member of the Wind Ensemble, played lead alto in the jazz ensemble for 3 years, and was a member of the UF ‘Graduate’ Saxophone Quartet. Mr. Schabowsky was the winner of the 2004 Northwest Florida Symphony Young Artist Competition, and was a featured soloist with the orchestra that year. After his time at UF, Mr. Schabowsky transferred to USF to earned a BA in Music with an emphasis Jazz Performance.

Mr. Schabowsky was a member of the 2004 and 2005 Disney Collegiate All-Star Bands, serving as student leader in 2005. From 2006-2008, he was a musician in Disney’s Tunetown Tuners, the saxophone quartet performing in the Magic Kingdom. He also was the lead saxophonist for the 2006-7 US National tour of “I Can’t Stop Loving You: The Music of Ray Charles.” 

Mr. Schabowsky’s performance credits include the Jimmy Dorsey Band, the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, and Harry James Orchestras, as well as performances with Toni Lynn Washington, Bobby McFerrin, and many other Mr. Schabowsky was the director of bands at St. Lucie West Centennial High School from 2008-2012. During his time there, the band received consistent Superior Ratings at Marching, Jazz, and Concert MPA’s, and the Jazz and Symphonic Bands have received Superior Ratings at State MPA events.
